New planning law from 6 April 2009
The States have introduced a new Planning Law. Purchasers will be advised by their advocates that an Immunity Certificate will be required for the property they intend to purchase, prior to signing a contract. A charge for this service will be levied by the Environment Department.
Dwellings Profits Tax has been suspended
In a significant move which should invigorate the property market, the States of Guernsey has agreed to suspend D.P.T. with effect from 26 March 2009. No longer will property owners be required to occupy a property for a year and a day or own a property for 5 years to gain exemption. Clearly, this will make buy to let investments more attractive and there is an obvious benefit for owner occupiers who wish to sell a short time after they have purchased.
